WHAT
WE DO
Here we answer where and when we meet. This is also where we go over what a typical meeting looks like.
MONTHLY MEETINGS.
Orange County PFLAG meets every 1st Wednesday of the month. The address is, 161 S Orange St., Orange, CA 92866. A typical meeting will start at 7:30 pm and will last until around 9:00 pm. Board members arrive around 7:00 pm to set up the venue for the meeting.
A typical meeting consists of the first 5-10 minutes establishing the rules, mission statement, and land acknowledgement. This is to set the overall tone of the meeting and expectations to ensure all people feel respected and welcomed in the meeting space. The next 15-20 minutes of the meeting are usually dedicated to a monthly speaker. Monthly speakers cover a variety of topics that are currently relevant to the LGBTQ+ community, or they provide information on how one can get involved in advocacy for civil rights. If there is no speaker scheduled for the month there is an ice breaker activity. Following the speaker or ice breaker, there is an intermission that lasts around 10 minutes so that participants can get refreshments and make connections with other visitors attending the meeting. After intermission, the board members will organize the visitors into several smaller groups so that all attendees can have a chance to share their stories. What generally happens in the support groups is everyone gets around 5 minutes to talk about their struggles, concerns, interests, or anything they feel comfortable talking about. The support group time typically lasts until 9:00 pm. At the end of support group time visitors are welcome to stay and talk. Board members will stay behind to clean and put back the tables in the venue space.

Connections in the Community
Learn about ways you can help the LGBTQ+ community locally. We often table at resource fairs and Pride events. This helps to get the word out that PFLAG is here to help LGBTQ+ people and their family members.
